Twins' 6th Birthday

Posted by Picasa

Lucky twins! They had their birthday at Lagoon this year! I guess that's a perk for having a summer birthday! Tanner feels a little cheated! ;) They opened some of their gifts at home the night before. They each got a scooter and a few other gifts!

Megan requested a rainbow cake...inside AND out! This is what it looked like:The inside was actually really easy: Zach was so into Pirates of the Caribbean after this past D-Land trip, so for him it was a pirate cake. I originally tried to make it look like the ride, but ended up going for a pirate island type thing instead. For those of you hard core Disney fans, you will notice it is complete with the "redhead" as in "We wants the redhead"! LOL... oh, and Davy Jones is coming out of the water too. Click for detail. He was happy so that is what's important!

"The Babies" Story

I still remember the day quite clearly. It was a January day in 2003 and I was 17 weeks pregnant. I knew something was a little different. I was much bigger than when I was pregnant with Tanner. I was also much sicker. Could it be a girl? Well, yes it was...and a boy too! The technician found two heads with that ultrasound! Two babies.

On June 16, 2003 the babies were born by emergency C-section at 8:30 and 8:32 pm. Megan was first. They came out looking just perfect! They seem to look that way sometimes when they come C-section. I soon recovered (I also had to have a transfusion) and was able to enjoy the beauty of "the babies". See, they were always called "the babies". Never the twins. It was just our thing.

The other day I realized that it wasn't THAT long ago that I remember Brandon saying "the babies" when referring to the twins. I mean, probably since Gavin's been born, which means they were over four years old, maybe even five...and yet, still they were "the babies".

Tears came to my eyes the other day when I thought of this. It kind of hit me...they are NOT babies anymore. I mean they have even finished Kindergarten! How did this happen? How in all the busy-ness of our lives, did they grow to be six years old?

In any case, here we are! We just celebrated their 6th birthday with a day at Lagoon! I am truly grateful for them. They have knock-down-drag-out fights at times, but I also see those moments when they look out for each other and love each other. I am grateful for their spirits and their personalities and all that they are. I love them.

Megan is sweet and a smart, beautiful girl. She is a girly-girl, a Daddy's girl and a nurturer. She is very loving towards Gavin. She is very sensitive and at sometimes shy. She is brave and willing to try new things. Megan is a very fun girl!

Zach is fun and a bright, creative boy. He has as tender heart. He is energetic and enthusiastic about everything in life. He remembers anything and everything. He is very sweet and affectionate. He is such a fun boy!

Happy 6th birthday to Megan and Zach!
P.S. You will always be our "babies"!

Bittersweet...

What???
You mean this school year is over? It seems like just yesterday they had their first day!

It seems like just yesterday that the bus pulled up to get Zach.
Or I walked Megan to her Kindergarten door.
Does this mean no more watching for the bus?
Or watching for Tanner to walk home?
No more anxiously awaiting the dance festival...
Or Megan's Kindergarten play...

Or Zach's Kindergarten graduation...
Boy, it is sure hard to see them grow. But we're supposed to find joy in our journey right? So I'm looking ahead to summer and the next year, hoping it will be memorable and wonderful also. According to Zach, Summer has officially arrived and to mark the occasion...a new shark slip and slide! ;)
Happy Summer!

Giant John

Megan is the Princess.

Read Me a Memory

Lyrics:
Read me a mem’ry, tell me a tale.

Speak of wondrous adventures.

Together we’ll sail off to forests enchanted and lands far away.

Fairies and kings, and magical rings,

My heart has wings,

When I sit at your knee and you read to me.

Years turn like pages, soon I’ll be grown.

Maybe someday I’ll read to a child of my own.

Though I may not remember the stories we shared,

I always knew, through time spent with you

That you loved me too;

For I sat at your knee and you read to me.

Childhood like summer days; Dews on the grass,

Soon will be yesterdays. Don’t let it pass,

‘Til you read me a mem’ry, tell me a tale,

Speak of wondrous adventures.

Together we’ll sail off to forests enchanted and lands far away.

Fairies and kings, and magical rings.

My heart has wings!

When I sit at your knee and you read to me.

Yes. A definite tearjearker!

Fruits of my Labor

Megan made this cute book about me:

Here is me!

Here we are at the store:

Here we are on a girls' night out:

Tanner surprised me on Mother's Day with those cute flowers on wooden sticks with little "jobs" for him to do. He had hidden it in a pocket in his backpack. He also brought me a plant he had done at Scouts. Zach made me a cute frame with stickers. Megan made me a foam "MOM" sign with her picture. Brandon got me a new massaging shower head! So fun! And a new book that his friend wrote with her mom-you know the Eyres. My mother-in-law gave me a book about cupcake making. It was a good Mother's Day, and you know the best part about it?
