The morning of our recent trip to D-Land we had just told all the kids that we were driving to Disneyland RIGHT NOW. Although Zach seemed happy he said, "But I don't want to drive, I want to fly! Driving takes too long." 4-13-09
Megan said, "Ice cream doesn't really smell good, but it tastes really good, and flowers smell really good but don't taste good!" 2-3-09
Zach knew that he was going to parade around the school in his Halloween costume on Friday(Halloween) with all the other school kids. So he said to me, "Mommy, do I get to ride on a float?" 10-29-08
"Mommy, are you all done with your potty work?" I said, "Oh, do you mean when I get ready, and do my hair and make up?" Zach said, "Yes, after you shower, then you have grown up time and do your potty work!" Isn't it funny to see what kids are thinking? Hey, I am in the "potty" room when I get ready, so that could be considered potty WORK! 10-13-08
I saw Megan doing simple addition on a paper: 5+1=6 2+2=4 etc. I asked her how she did such a good job with that? She said, "Oh, it's easy...I just use my fingers." Tanner challenged her and said, "What is 100+100 and she said, "Tanner, I don't have THAT many fingers." Like sheesh...don't ya know??? 10-10-08
The night before Kindergarten started, I said to Zach that it was time for Daddy to give him his blessing. He was really tired and said, "Can you just carry me to the couch and you give me the blessing Mommy?" I told him that only Daddies can give blessings, so he hopped up into the chair and folded his arms and after the blessing, laid down on the couch and fell right to sleep. 8-24-08
Tanner has always loved characters in costume, so he has always fit right in at Disneyland, Chuck E. Cheese etc. Last night when we ate at the Hungry Bear restaurant, out came a small bear(a person in costume) and he was so excited and went up to it and didn't just high five or shake it's hand, he gave it a big hug! He is such a sweet boy. I'm glad he's still young and innocent enough to do that and find joy. 8-17-08
Brandon and Tanner were watching the Olympics. Tanner said, "Why do they go to the Olympics?" Brandon said, "If you are really good at a sport you can go to the Olympics." Tanner said, "Do they have waterskiing in the Olympics?" Brandon said, "No." Tanner said, "Darn it!" 8-9-08
Update on what Zach wants to be when he grows up: "Mommy, I want to control the Terror Ride when I grow up." As in, the Terror Ride at Lagoon! Brandon's response was that he may have to work Sundays if he works at Lagoon. ha ha ha That made me laugh! 7-24-08
On the way to the store tonight, I said to Tanner, "Do we have hotdogs?" He said, "Yes, we have a whole "fresh" pack. So you can "x" that off your list mom!" 7-23-08
At dinner, Zach said the prayer and ended in a shall we say, "irreverent" manner. I then told him he needed to say the prayer nicely and reverently etc. etc. Then Megan said, "Heavenly Father is sad when we do that, but he loves the little children anyway!" 7-22-08
Megan answered the phone. It was my mom. My mom said, "Hi Megan! Is it okay if I come over later and eat dinner with you?" Megan answered, "I'm fine with that, because you are my Grandma and I love you!" 7-4-08
"Mommy, what will you do when we grow up?" -Zachary 7-1-08
"Everyone in these pictures has had babies. I want to have a baby too when I grow up." -Megan while looking through family photo albums 5-23-08
"Mom, I love Gavin so much, I want to keep him forever!" -Megan 5-23-08
"Thanks for taking us on a great adventure!" 5-21-08 -Zach to one of the teachers on the last day of the Wee Wolves Preschool
"Thank you...Thank you" 5-21-08 -Zach after performing each song and bowing during the applause at his preschool performance
“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less.” -Anna Quindlen
